What the statute actually says
Since April 2024 British Columbia recognizes two classes of motor-assisted cycle: a 'light e-bike' (up to 250 W, assist to 25 km/h, minimum age 14) and a 'standard e-bike' (up to 500 W, assist to 32 km/h, minimum age 16); the values here reflect the standard class. Every e-bike must have pedals or hand cranks usable while the motor is engaged, and no driver's licence or insurance is required. A bicycle safety helmet is mandatory, and municipalities may set their own rules for cycling on shared-use paths.
